TBR
History of TBR
TBR-Travel Baseball Rankings LLC was founded by Jesse Rentfrow. There was a void in travel baseball as all the other companies require you to play in their tournaments to get ranked. The more you play the higher you get ranked. Travel baseball teams like variety, so taking the results from ALL the competitive tournaments made the most sense. TBR gets up-to-date rankings and takes into consideration the results of all sanctioning bodies and highly competitive games in 34 states.
A big part of this process is from user-input from high level local teams. TBR is also the ONLY rankings website to take into consideration team name changes, team mergers, player movement, etc. when updating the preseason rankings. The rankings are updated three times a year. There is no Algorithm. If you win in bracket in a highly competitive tournament, you leapfrog other teams based on your initial ranking.
TBR tournaments have grown quickly over the last few years. Being a travel baseball dad and coach, I was sick of going to tournaments and them being cancelled, ran with one umpire, not great complexes, poor competition, etc. One such tournament in 10u, the tournament was cancelled for poor field conditions. We went to the fields on the way out of town and they were completely playable with abundant sunshine in the forecast for the rest of the day. We already got our two games in and they got their money. The same large organization still captures un-suspecting teams. Fast forward a few years and there is no doubt TBR does what it can to make sure the kids play as many games as possible, always with two umpires, nice facilities, and high level competition. TBR’s Tournaments have grown substantially over the last few years and include tournaments in New York, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky! Last year, 152 top teams from 12 states and Canada challenged themselves in the TBR Elite World Series. At most tournaments you will see me in the trenches, watching games, taking videos, handing out awards, and talking to coaches/players.
We appreciate you subscribing to newsletter, following the site, and playing in our tournaments!
A few things to remember:
The TBR Season
We do not consider Fall or Winter ball results in our rankings. Season starts when teams get outdoors in March.
Indoor Games/Results are Not Considered
TBR Loves the idea of developing players indoors, however, we do not take these games/tournaments into consideration for the rankings. TBR only uses results from outdoor tournaments during the season.
Player Movement is Considered in Preseason Rankings
TBR is the only website that takes into consideration mergers, player movement, injuries, etc. Ultimately, once games start it is all settled on the field.
We Rank 34 States
These are the states that have highly competitive travel baseball teams.
Competing In High-Level Tournaments are Paramount!
We receive a lot of submissions about team records. TBR considers the best travel baseball teams that consistently seek top level competition and the teams that are testing themselves in high level tournaments, more so than wins and losses. The caveat...Most teams don’t know the what the most competitive tournaments are until the team lists are released. TBR, PBR, PG Major, USSSA Major are great starting points for excellent competition.
Head-to-Head Wins Are Important, But Not Everything
Did your team beat a team in pool play, but did not advance as far in bracket play? This could be an indicator that your team was better that one game, but not as deep of a team overall, which could warrant a lower ranking.
League Play Is For development
Why? We get a lot of submissions on league play. Some top teams may be developing players/pitchers while others are going for the win. It can be really difficult to determine the coach’s strategy in league play. Tournament wins are a much better indicator of the better overall team.
Rankings are updated on designated dates when the season starts, please follow the process on the website to be considered.
