The Formula
We have a process for more accurate rankings in 2020. We need State directors to help us rank the most competitive tournaments in your State. Below is an example of the State Rankings Key and the National Rankings Key. We also have a new classification system for help determining head-to-head match-ups. Top 25 teams are classified as four star(☆☆☆☆) or five star(☆☆☆☆☆). Keep in mind our process does not just give credit to certain sanctioning bodies, we give credit to the most competitive tournaments.
We have four criteria:
1. Points from winning the most competitive tourneys
2. Platinum games played and won at age(Top 25)
3. Points from good showings in the most competitive tourneys
4. Head-To-Head records against top teams
Lets provide an example from the age group below. This is 10u Michigan for 2019. We gave more credit to the winner of a couple organizational tournaments, than the USSSA AA WS or USSSA AA State because more top tier ranked teams played. The final four in the Michigan Monster were all ranked in the top 6 and the top 3 in Cinco De Mayhem were ranked in the top 5, conversely, the top 4 in the USSSA AA WS were only 9-12. So with the spirit of the website, "Play The best and Beat the Best". The top 8 in this age group did just that. Now that we found the top 8(Some age groups may differ), we need to find teams 9-25, which can be done using what we classify as Gold or Silver Tournaments and using the four criteria above as well the ranking key below.
